Looking to Jesus

READ: Deuteronomy 18:15-18
We all know what it is like to look forward to something; Christmas, our birthdays or summer vacation. We all know the excitement and anticipation as the date of a special occasion gets closer and closer. The Old Testament Hebrews were looking to a special occasion, too, but it was something quite different that what we normally wait for. The Old Testament Hebrews were looking forward to the arrival of their Savior, Jesus.
The Old Testament Hebrews looked forward to the time when Jesus would be born to begin the work of salvation that would pay for their sins once for all. One time that this promise was again given to them was after they had left Egypt: “I will raise up from among you a man like me.” This verse and the next few verses tell about how Jesus would come to earth as a baby and save all of mankind from sin.
We also look ahead to Jesus, but this time Jesus’ second coming. We look forward to Jesus’ second coming because when Jesus comes again, all the dead will be raised and we and all believers will be with Jesus in heaven.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Why should we look ahead to Jesus? How can we prepare for Jesus’ second coming? Why is our looking ahead similar to that of the Old Testament Hebrews?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God to help you to look forward to Jesus. Ask God to help you be prepared for Jesus’ second coming.
