Are You Humble

READ: Philippians 2:5-11

Can you think of a time when you weren’t very humble?  Maybe when you did well on a test or in a sport and started bragging and showing off?  In the Bible God gives us many examples of being humble.  One of these examples is in Philippians 2:5-8, where He tells us, “your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus” who “made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant.”

Jesus was and is God, the ruler of the universe, and everything in it.  He didn’t, however, just stay in heaven, leaving us helpless and hopeless in sin.  Instead, he came to earth and became a human to live a perfect life in our place, to die a perfect death, and to rise again - all for us.

God wants us to model this kind of loving humility with others.  Don’t be someone who walks around bragging and boasting, but be humble, like Jesus, doing everything to serve others and point them to Jesus.

This may not always be fun, but don’t worry.  God promises to be with us always, and to take us to heaven to be with him.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  How am I not as humble as I should be?  How can I become more humble?  What situations would humility help with?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Ask God to help you be more humble.  Thank God for giving us the Bible with it’s examples of humility.  Ask God to help others practice Jesus' humility, too.
