The Light of Our Life

READ: Isaiah 9:2-7
Billy and Bob were wandering in a very dark cave. They were wandering in there for about an hour when their flashlights started to flicker and go out. It was totally pitch black. Billy and Bob got really scared because it was very black and they didn't know which way to get out. So they started walking around yelling for help. Then out of the darkness Bob saw a very small light. They both started walking to the light, not worrying about what was in front of them, focusing solely on getting to the stream of light. After ten minutes the light had grown. Now they could see it was the exit out of the cave. They were out of the pitch darkness of the cave and back into the light of the sun.
This story resembles our lives as Christians. As God says in Isaiah 9:2, "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." We were once in the darkness like Billy and Bob, filled with our sinful nature. We wandered around in the darkness without anything to guide us, always yelling for help. Then God, our great light, came into our lives through our baptism and through His Word. Now that we see the light, we follow it so we can find the path to the eternal light in heaven.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are some ways we can keep your light shining? What is something that can shut out the light?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank God for being your light. Ask Him to keep His light bright in your future.
