READ: 2 Corinthians 4:13-18

Problems, problems, problems. If there is one thing that people have in common, it's their share of problems. Abortion, drugs, alcohol, AIDS and other deadly diseases are some of the tragic problems that affect society today. Where does it all end? You know as well as I do that, because of sin, hardships will continue throughout our earthly lives.

God reminds us today, however: Do not focus on the things in life that will get you down. God did not intend for your life to be spent in constant worry. Instead, he encourages us to focus on the things of God: His love and His promises. Trust in the almighty Lord to take care of you. In 2 Corinthians 4:13-18, Paul gives so much encouragement, "Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day." That little phrase brings so much comfort and joy to the believer. We are assured that, even as we grow tired and weary, God is by our side, renewing us; and He will help us to soar. We may physically be growing weak, but our hearts become like steel as we are strengthened in Christ. With our hearts strong, we show love toward our God and our neighbor - which is Jesus' command to us.

Later in the text, God challenges us to strive on with our lives until we reach heaven. The things of this world are only temporary. By fixing our eyes beyond worldly affairs, we catch a glimpse of heaven, and the wonderful home that God has prepared for each of us there. Take these important words of truth and love to heart. The only answer to problems in our lives is be found through our God and His Word of Truth.

Take every opportunity you have to renew yourselves through Jesus Christ, and focus your eyes on Him. God promises that your worldly problems will "waste away."

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What do people need to focus on? What was this Bible selection saying to you? How are you going to respond to these words?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that God would move you to focus your thoughts and trust on Jesus, who alone has made heaven possible for us. Pray for all of the people you can think of that are temporarily suffering, or who do not yet believe, that God's love and promises can renew and strengthen them too.
