Thief in the Night

READ: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
One summer several years ago, my family and I went on a weekend vacation. We had a great time and thought everything was perfect. Nothing could bring us down; that was until we got home. We arrived at our house and everyone was very tired. As we got onto the porch, my dad noticed that something was wrong. My dad said, “It looks like we have been robbed.” Everyone was shocked. It was the furthest thing from any of our minds. This happens to many people all the time and it is always very shocking.
In much the same way the Lord will come very unexpectedly. Paul said through the Lord’s inspiration, “For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ‘Peace and safety,’ destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape.” The Lord will come in much the same way as the thief that would break into your home. Paul also states, “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath, but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
So, do not be afraid of the coming of the Lord, as it will result in our entrance to heaven through faith. The Lord may come at any time, so live every day prepared his return, doing all things to the glory of God.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: When will the Lord come? How can we prepare for His coming? Who will be saved?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask the Lord for help to live in His glory. Thank the Lord for choosing you and creating a place for Christians in heaven. Ask for help to always be prepared for His coming.
