What the Future Holds

READ: Philippians 3:12-14

As Sharon flipped through her last high school yearbook, her eyes flooded with tears and her mind filled with memories.  “I don’t ever want to leave,” she whispered to herself.

Sharon’s thoughts are quite typical of most graduating seniors in any high school.  Obviously, not everyone feels the same, but most students’ feelings are similar.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with remembering our high school lives and the fun we had, but we know that bigger and better things await us as we leave high school.

High school life can be easily compared to our life here on earth.  We live each day, creating new memories and learning new things without even having to think about it.  While we certainly can’t forget these things, we know that there is definitely a bigger and better thing waiting for us after we leave this world.  God has reserved heaven for us.  We must constantly be “forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” (Phil. 3:13)

Even while we’re still in high school, we must start thinking of what lies beyond the high school walls.  In the same way, we need to think of what lies ahead for us beyond the confines of this earth – HEAVEN.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Why is it important that we think of what awaits us after this life?  Does God demand us to abolish our memories?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Thank God for the wonderful memories He has given us so far in high school.
