Life by the Spirit

READ: Galatians 5:16-24
In many books and movies there is the theme of good vs. evil. The knight vs. the dragon is just one example. Whether you realize it or not, you are affected by this concept every day. But instead of having the knight vs. the dragon, you experience the spirit vs. the flesh.
This conflict exists in the things we do, say and think. We are tempted by our sinful nature to do things against God's will, like drink, do drugs, or covet something somebody else has. These sinful desires can only be overcome through the work of the Holy Spirit, who moves us to love serve one another. The only way we can stand up to temptations is if the Spirit helps us in fighting against our sinful flesh as the fruits of the Spirit guide us to do what pleases God. Paul says in Galatians 5:22-24, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Through faith in Jesus we are saved. By the work of the Holy Spirit, we are able to put these fruits into action in our lives.
The Holy Spirit helps us fight the flesh so that in the battle of our spirit vs. flesh, we are overcomers in Christ.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What conflicts do we face in our lives everyday? What are some fruits of the Spirit? What are we saved by?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that the Spirit will help guide us in our life. Ask that we can use the gifts of the Spirit. Pray that the Spirit will overcome the flesh. Pray to God to help you live your life according to His will. Pray for others in need. Pray so you don’t look down on others.
