Living For Christ

READ: Titus 2:7-8

Billy was a student at a private high school.  He was gifted with the ability to play basketball.  As the fall season ended and the winter season started, basketball tryouts came up.  He had practiced all year for this and wanted to make the team more than anything.  At the end of a grueling week of tryouts, he was overjoyed to see that, along with 17 other boys, he made the team.

As the season progressed, they had wins and they had losses.  Some of players, however, were getting big heads and started to disrespect teachers and even their own coach.  After one of their games in which they had a big lead and ended up losing, they entered the locker room and two of the players began cursing and other sinful behavior.  Then one of them yelled out, “My God!”  At these words Billy jumped up and started to talk to his fellow teammates about living for Christ and showing our faith by our actions.  Titus 2:7-8 says, “In everything set them an example by doing what is good.  In your teaching show integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about you.”

So, in all you do, show your love for God in your words and your actions, and encourage others to do the same.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  When should we act in a way to show our faith?  Why should we bother acting according to God’s will?  What should be our actions towards someone who uses His name in vain?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Ask God to stay with us and give us the strength to act according to His Word and law.  Thank God for showing us mercy and love, for always forgiving us and taking away our deserved punishment.  Praise God for giving us the chance to show our faith in Him.  Pray that we take advantage of all possible opportunities to witness.
