READ: Exodus 15:22-26

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see a miracle?  Not just an “ordinary” miracle, like a newborn baby, or a beautiful flower, but a “real” miracle.  Wouldn’t it be great to see a crippled man walk, a blind man see, or a dead person raised to life?

Jesus wasn’t interested in performing tricks for people.  Jesus used miracles to confirm His presence among us as the very Son of God.  He used His almighty power to minister in the lives of people in very special ways as He did with the Israelites.  Once again the Lord’s love was shown by making the water sweet for them to drink, so they would not longer thirst.  There He proved His almighty power to the people and said to them in Exodus 15:26, “I will not bring on you any of the diseases that I brought on the Egyptians for I am the Lord who heals you.”  The Lord let the Israelites know that He was the Almighty God by His words and His miracle.

Miracles were a significant part of Jesus’ ministry, and yet we would have to say that they weren’t the “main event.”  When people became enthralled by His miracles, Jesus pointed them back to the real reason for His coming; to save the lost.  Today, among other miracles, we remember the miracle of our salvation—a miracle accomplished by Jesus Himself though all He did while He walked among us.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Do miracles happen today?  How did Jesus’ miracles help to encourage us?  Why did Jesus perform miracles?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Thank God for the times He has come to your aid.  Pray for His help in appreciating Christ’s miracles.  Ask God to help those who cannot see the real reason for His miracles.  Pray for help in encouraging them on the right path.
