Songs to God

READ: Isaiah 12:1-6

Were you ever in a choir?  Did you ever sing songs in church when you were in grade school?  When you sing these songs, you are praising God and asking Him for forgiveness and help.

Isaiah 12 talks about how we should not be afraid of anything because God is our strength.  In verse 2 he says, “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust in him and not be afraid.”  Whenever we are in trouble, God will be there for us.  We have all been afraid at some point in our life, but we are comforted by the fact that when we call upon God’s name, he’ll be there for us.

God wants everyone to know that He helps and protects them and the only way to heaven is through Him.  Verse 5 says, “Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world.”  We should remember that there is only one person who can help us; one person who can save us; one person who died for us.  That is Jesus Christ our Lord—and no one else.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  When you sing hymns to God, what do you think the words actually mean?  What other ways can you talk to God?  Why do you think God protects us, even though we are sinful?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Thank God for always being there for you.  Ask Him to always hear your prayers and to answer them the best way He knows how.  Ask Him to help you be the best person you can be.
