Whom Shall I Fear?

READ: Psalm 27:1-2, 4-5

When I was a little girl, like most kids, I was scared of monsters.  Every night after the light was turned off, I would check under my bed and in my closet to see if there were any monsters hiding there.  Finally, my dad would come into my room and tell me that it was too late to be up and that I should be in bed.  I would explain to him what I was doing, and just to make me feel that much safer, he would check the same places, just to be sure I hadn’t missed any.  As I laid in my bed, however, every little thump, creak or scratch woke me up.  Soon I was yelling for my dad and he would come running through the door to comfort his scared daughter.  He would tell me that there was nothing to be afraid of because God was there and He would always be there.

In Psalm 27, David writes, “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?”  When I read this, I realize that David is right, and as long as I have God with me, I have nothing to fear.  King David also writes, “For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling.”  This brings comfort.  He kept me safe in my dad’s arms when I thought a monster was going to get me.  I know that even now God will keep me in a place where I am safe from harm.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  From what does God protect us?  Why should we take comfort in knowing that God is there for us?  What comfort does God offer us?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Pray for all those who need comfort that they will find it in God.  Pray for all who have a fear of something.
