READ: Acts 2:1-13
Looking at the title, you may be wondering what kind of title that is. Think about it for a moment. These symbols could be a language to some people. They could be the means by which someone could learn about their Savior. What makes other people understand each other? God has given many the gift to learn and speak other languages.
On the first Pentecost, the Ascension promise of Jesus, that the disciples would receive the Holy Spirit, was fulfilled. At that time all of them began to speak in other tongues. How amazed the visiting Jews “from every nation under Heaven” must have been. They were hearing the good news of their Savior, and the wonders of God in their native languages.
Do you recall ever thinking, “Boy, English is a boring subject?” Do you know the most important reason for learning it well? Yes, we need it to converse with others and help us with our jobs, but the most important reason for learning English or any language well is so that we are equipped to share the Good News of our risen and ascended Lord.
Are you taking a foreign language at this time? How do you plan to use it? Perhaps, when you look at Acts 2:1-13, you will better understand and see the importance in sharing God’s Word in each person’s native language.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Have you thought about learning another language? Do you possess the gift of learning another language? Have you thought of it as a way of sharing God’s Word?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for missionaries in foreign lands. Pray for ways in which technology can be used to aid the spread of the Gospel in other languages. Pray for the Lord’s guidance in your life that you might better be able to share, no matter what the language, the message of God’s love.
