Too Much Trouble

READPsalm 22:1-22

It seems as if no one is free from trouble these days.  Open the newspaper, turn on the television, or talk to a classmate or employee.  Stories of wars breaking out, an innocent child caught in the cross-fire, Dad losing his job, or a loved one in the hospital with cancer, are all too common.

Fortunately, we as Christians have a God who has experienced human heartaches and can help us get through them.  Jesus felt and experienced the worst trouble in the world when He was on the cross on Calvary.  He carried the sins of the whole world.  His beaten body was hung on a tree.  And because of our sins, He truly was forsaken by God the Father - for a moment, as payment for our sins.  But then Jesus rose, made one with the Father again.

And before he ascended into Heaven, Jesus promiseed his children, us, the comfort and assurance that he is always with us, even though troubles come our way.  The psalm writer called out to God in verse 19, “But you, O Lord, be not far off; O my strength, come quickly to help me.”  We too must call out to our Lord and He will help us in our hard times.  God is near us and will never allow us to experience any more trouble than we can bear.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  What do you do when troubles come your way?  Why should we be thankful for the trials and struggles we have in life?  How can we help others when they feel overwhelmed with troubles?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Ask God for help with personal troubles as well as the troubles of others.  Thank Him for the trials we face that they may strengthen our faith.  Pray that God would keep us close to Him during good and bad times.
