READPsalm 34:8

Once there was a man who lost everything he had, including his family.  His priority caught fire and everything burned to the ground.  This man was a Christian, and surprisingly he stayed a Christian, even after God let this happen to him.

Does this story sound familiar?  It’s the story of Job from the Bible.  Even when times got tough, he stayed in the light of God and His ways.  He prayed continually, and God blessed him for it.  We, too, should be like Job, praising and thanking God, even when times are bad.  The result will be the blessings of God.

In Psalm 34:8, David wrote in his song, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.”  Here is another man who almost fell away, but he repented and asked God to forgive him.  Not only did God forgive him, but he also blessed him.  In the same way God promises to give us blessings if we come to him with any of our troubles.  This is just another example of His love and mercy that He has shown us since the beginning of the world.

It should be our prayer that we would all be inclined to act as Job and David did and praise God, no matter what hardships may come to us.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  In what ways do you, or can you, praise God?  What could you do to encourage someone like David or Job after something gets really bad?  What do you think David is saying in Psalm 34:8, when he writes, “Taste and see that the Lord is good?”

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Thank God for what you have, and don’t be angry because of the things you don’t have.  Ask Him to help someone who is going through a tough time right now.  Ask Him to help you to always remember that no matter what happens in life, He still loves you more than ever.
