Christ Our Living Hope
READ: 1 Peter 1:3-9
Three days after receiving my driver’s license, my dad handed me the keys to his month old Firebird. I cruised down the street, looking cool and loving the freedom. All of a sudden, I was rear-ended; spinning out of control, and then it was all over. I woke up three days later in the hospital with a broken leg, three broken ribs, and a major headache. The doctors told me I was lucky to be alive, and that without my airbag, I would have died. Just as my airbag saved me physically, Christ has saved us all spiritually.
It says in 1 Peter, “He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ…Though you do not see him, you love him, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of souls.” It is only because we have Christ that we receive salvation and eternal life.
Just because we can’t see the airbag in our car, we know it’s ready to save us if we crash. The same is true for Jesus; we don’t see Him, but we still believe in Him, and that He rose for us and gives us salvation.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Have you ever been in a situation where you felt you were in danger? If so, how did it affect your relationship with Christ? How can you improve your relationship with Him? What would your life be without Jesus?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank God for sending Jesus and having Him rise from the dead for us. Ask God to help you come to Him in times of need. Ask God to help you bring Jesus to someone else who might not know Him.
