Birthday King

READ: Matthew 21:1-11
In Matthew 21:1-11, Matthew gives us a great picture of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Jesus’ entry started off, in some people’s eyes, as low, riding on a colt. But Jesus was the King and will always be the King.
Everything was going wrong for Jim. His alarm clock didn’t go off, his car would not start, and his boss chewed him out for being late. Worst of all, all these bad things happened on his birthday.
After work Jim slowly went to his car praying it would start. He sat in the car and turned the key; it started and he was on his way home. When he got there, he thought his house looked empty and dark. After parking his car, he walked through the front door and was suddenly shocked to see all of his family and friends and they were shouting, “Surprise!” Jim’s day brightened as he was the center of attention. He felt like a king.
Just like Jim was a king in front of his family and friends, Jesus is King to all his followers, those who followed him on Palm Sunday and those who follow Him today. Thank the Lord for all His deeds and sing praises to His holy name, everyday!
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How do you feel when you’re treated like a king or queen? What does it mean to you that Jesus rode on a colt instead of using His power to make a glamorous entrance? What do you think you would have done if you were in Jerusalem that day?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank God for His deeds when He was on earth. Ask Him to give us strength to praise Him everyday. Ask Him to make every day a “King Day” for us.
