The High School Star

READ: Romans 12:3
Billy, a high school basketball star, was said to be the best kid on the team. Coaches and fans loved to watch him play. He was the best at shooting and rebounding. He knew he was good and as he coasted through every practice, he would brag about how great he was to Ken. Ken was also a good player, but he kept on trying to improve. Billy started the season very well, but halfway through the season, he fell into a slump and went games without scoring. The fans soon were going to the games to watch the new star, Ken. Ken kept improving and was soon the leading scorer and rebounder. Billy ended the season at the lowest spot on the bench.
In Romans 12:3 God tells us that we are not to think too highly of ourselves, but rather “think of ourselves with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given us.” Billy thought very highly of himself and turned out to be the lowest in the end. God wants us to be his servants in this world, spreading the good news to everyone. He tells us that whatever we do for the least of them, we are doing it for him. We were put here for a purpose and that purpose was not to raise ourselves up, but to raise others up out of Satan’s hands by telling them the good news of Jesus.
God wants all men to be saved, so it is our job not to make ourselves look good, but to make Him look good; so that we all may be together one day in heaven. Live your life for Him and all things will work for the good.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What is the measure of faith God has given us? What things cause us to think highly of ourselves? Who can we help in need?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for humility. Pray for strength to spread his Word every day. Sincerely thank God for all the things he has given us.
