God's Strengthening Word

READIsaiah 55:10-11

Mrs. Betty Simpson was going to visit her granddaughter, Claire, in the hospital.  She had been hit by a drunk driver when she was walking home from work on New Year’s Eve.  Claire believed in God, but hadn’t been active in her faith like her grandmother.  Mrs. Simpson would go every day and read the Bible to Claire.  She also had her pastor go and visit her once.  Mrs. Simpson didn’t know if what she was doing was impacting Claire at all, but she did it faithfully every day.

Claire did recover and returned home to her family.  While Mrs. Simpson was getting ready for church one morning, her telephone rang.  It was Claire asking her grandmother if she would be picking her up for church.  Mrs. Simpson couldn’t help but wipe a tear from her eye.  Once again, God had done it through His Word.

Many Christians take for granted what God really does with and through His Word.  We do not always remember that God’s Word strengthens our faith.  The Lord says in Isaiah 55:11, “So shall my Word be that goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (NKJ)  The Lord didn’t just send His Word for nothing.  He sent it to bring people to faith through the Holy Spirit, and once we have that faith, to strengthen it.

May the Lord strengthen your faith every day and lead you to share it with confidence.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  What other things can we do to make our faith stronger?  At what times of our lives do we especially need to hear the Word of God?  What can we do as God’s children to help other people come to faith through the Holy Spirit?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Pray for the strengthening use of God’s Word in your faith life.  Thank the Lord for the Word that He has sent.  Ask the Lord to guide other people to come to faith in the Lord through the use of the Word.
