Good or Bad?

READ: Psalm 4

Would you say that the world today is good or bad?  All you have to do is check out the latest news, and many, if not all of the stories, seem to report on the problems of the world – violence, environmental issues, terrorism and war, family feuds, and the like.  It doesn’t take long to conclude that the world isn’t headed in a good direction…

In Psalm 4 verse 6, David says, “Many are asking, ‘Who can show us any good?’”  That’s a fair question to ask in a world that has fallen into sin.  That’s a fair question to ask in a world where violence and hardship happen in our own neighborhoods.  That’s a fair question to ask as we give into our sinful nature time and time again.

David continues in verse 6 and immediately answers the question.  “Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD.”  That light of goodness is Jesus, our Savior from sin!  The apostle John tells us, “God is light; in him there is no darkness…if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:5,7)

And what is the result…more joy than anything in the world gives and peace while we live and sleep, for no matter what happens in this world, we have love and peace with God through the blood of our Savior Jesus, and the promise of everlasting life with him!

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  How do the problems of the world provide you opportunities to share God’s love?  How does God demonstrate his power through the events in the world?  What good has God demonstrated in your life?

THINGS TO PRAY ABOUT:  Thank God for his love, protection, and blessings in your life.  Ask God to use you and the events in the world to share his promise of salvation through Jesus with others.
