Kings

READ: Psalm 8
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a king or queen? Maybe you’ve hoped to be the king or queen of the Homecoming court. Or maybe you’ve toured a castle or palace and imagined yourself living there, with servants to wait on your every need and subjects to praise you.
Psalm 8 reminds us of two important kingships – the ultimate kingship of God and the kingship he imparts to mankind. It is God who created all things. As you consider the things listed in this Psalm, consider all the variations and species of the things listed, and everything else that’s not listed. No wonder David starts and ends proclaiming the great majesty of God.
Read verses 4-6 again carefully. “…what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet...” David reminds us of two important truths – God is greater than us by far, and God is all-loving in making the Earth for us and giving it to us to rule over. What an awesome God we have! The whole of creation was made for us! Let us give thanks to our Maker, for the physical blessings of his creation, but more importantly for the gift of salvation in Jesus.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: With ruling comes responsibility; what responsibilities come with being the rulers of God’s creation? How does God being greater than us put perspective on how we rule creation?
THINGS TO PRAY ABOUT: Ask God for the wisdom to rule over his creation wisely and to his glory. Thank God for the blessings of his creation. Give him praise as the King and Ruler of the universe and of the hearts of believers.
