READ: Psalm 9

What do you do for a job?  If you ask other teenagers that question, you’ll get a host of answers.  Some work at restaurants, some at coffee shops, some in factories, some mow lawns or have paper routes, some are tutors, and the list could go on and on.

Psalm 9 points out one of the major jobs of a Christian – giving praise to God.  And why shouldn’t we?  God has done and continues to do so much for us.  David didn’t take credit for the defeat of his enemies; rather he proclaims the works the LORD had accomplished, and praises him for doing it.

Think of all that God has done and continues to do for you!  He gives you life and breath every day.  He provides clothes and food every day.  He has blessed you with family and friends.  He gives you a place to rest your head at night, hobbies and talents to enjoy, cell phones and Internet to stay connected to others, and so much more.  He gives you his promises in his Word.  And most importantly, he has forgiven your sins and given you the gift of heaven.  With David, we certainly must say, “I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.  I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.”

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  If you were to list all the great things that God has done for you, how long would that list be?  Would it ever end?  In what different ways can you praise God?

THINGS TO PRAY ABOUT:  Thank God for the forgiveness of sins in our Savior Jesus.  Thank God for every opportunity he gives you to praise his great name.  Ask for boldness as we share the gifts of God with those around us.
