God Is Our Refuge

READ: Psalm 11
What do you do when a severe storm or tornado is about to strike? Hopefully, you head for some shelter, or at least get away from the windows. If you don’t, you risk getting injured in the event that windows were to break or the house was to suffer damage. Debris and glass could cause bruises, cuts, severe injuries, and possibly death.
David says in Psalm 11:1, “In the Lord I take refuge.” Refuge in the Lord is important, for what follows in Psalm 11 describes what happens to those who do not take refuge in the Lord. The destruction that awaits them because of their wickedness will be severe. Through faith in Jesus as our Savior, believers take refuge in the Lord, and there find forgiveness, eternal life, peace, joy and the blessing of the Spirit of God, that believers be moved to do the Lord’s will.
God as our refuge is a common theme throughout Scripture, appearing over 20 times in the Psalms alone. Make God your refuge every day, that in him you may experience all the goodness and blessing of God.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are the different ways of taking refuge in God? How is the refuge of God better than refuge in earthly things?
THINGS TO PRAY ABOUT: Thank God for loving us so much that he made it possible to take refuge in him through his Son Jesus. Ask God to guard and keep you throughout life as you face both trials and joys. Ask God for the opportunity to share his refuge with others.
