Is Anyone Good?

READ: Psalm 14
Who do you consider to be a good person? Your friends? Your parents? Your favorite teacher? Perhaps your favorite athlete? Maybe you consider yourself to be a good person…
David points out an important fact about every single human ever born – “All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.” (Psalm 14:3) By nature, we aren’t able to do anything good; we’re eternally lost because of our sin.
Paul echoes David in Romans 3, “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” But Paul doesn’t stop there. “…and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Our sins are forever forgiven! Our feeble attempts to do good are made righteous before God, acceptable and pleasing in his sight, through the blood of Jesus our Savior. In fact, he sends his Spirit to create in us the desire to do his will. What a wonderful God we have!
But there are still many who are foolish, many who don’t know of God’s saving grace. And so we warn them of the wrath of God because of sin, but we also share the love of God in the promise of forgiveness in Jesus. Boldly reach out to the foolish, that they may come to know Christ, his comfort and peace.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How do we show our thankfulness for forgiveness in Christ? What does it mean to be a “sinner” and a “saint” at the same time?
THINGS TO PRAY ABOUT: Ask God to continue to work his will in your heart and life. Thank God for rescuing you from your sinful condition. Pray that God will use you to bring his love and grace to someone in your life.
