The Right Choice

READ: Ephesians 5:1-4
Calvin is captain of the football team. He recently helped lead his football team to the state championship game. To celebrate the team’s accomplishments, he attended the blow-out party that he and his teammates were invited to. Everyone was having a great time. During the party, Calvin met Judy. After a series of slow dances, Judy invited Calvin to come upstairs with her so she could call her parents and let them know what time she would be home.
After Judy talked to her dad, she suggested that she and Calvin should get to know each other better. After a few kisses, Calvin knew things were out of hand. He suggested to Judy that they go downstairs, but she persisted that they stay upstairs.
Calvin, recalled his confirmation passage and shared it with Judy. “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But among you there must not be any hint of sexual immorality or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or course joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.” (Ephesians 5:1-4)
Judy thought about it for a moment, and then apologized to Calvin for her behavior and thanked him for not taking advantage of her. As Christians, we should strive to do exactly what Calvin did in the midst of temptation. Unfortunately, we all too often fall into the devil’s trap.
Thanks be to God for our Savior Jesus! Keeping the Word of God close to your heart and rely on it for strength in the midst of temptation and the reminder of forgiveness when you slip.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How did memorized Scripture help Calvin in this situation? What if Judy hadn't reacted as she did to Calvin's admonision? If she had acted differently, should that have mattered to Calvin?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God to help you stay steadfast in His Word. Ask for help to lead a life that is glorifies God.
