READ: 1 Corinthians 15:19-26

One Christmas Eve, about ten years ago, I got a neat new toy.  I was so excited.  I hurriedly tore open the box so I could play with it.  I pressed the button many times, but nothing happened.  “What’s wrong with my new toy?” I shouted.  My mom had forgotten to put the batteries in.  She helped me put them in, and I pressed the button.  All of a sudden it came to life.

Just as my toy appeared to be lifeless and dead, we were dead in our transgressions.  Then Christ was raised from the dead to make us alive again.  Just as the batteries gave my toy “life,” through baptism we receive eternal life in Christ.  Although batteries in the toy will die, just like all earthly things pass away, Christ’s love for us will never die.  Think of the batter commercial where the bunny keeps going and going.  That’s like Christ’s love.  His love endures forever.

“For as in Adam, all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.”  How great this news is!  We are all sinful from birth, and our sinfulness makes us evil.  But don’t worry.  All of your sins are forgiven in Jesus, and you will live in eternal bliss and glory forever with him.  Just as batteries are charged with electricity, we should be charged with God’s Word.  We should share the great news of Christ’s resurrection with others.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How were we made alive?  How long will Christ’s love for us last?  How is a battery like Christ’s love?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Thank God for sending His Son to die so we may live.  Ask God to help us share the good news with others, because Christ came for all.  Ask God to forgive the sins caused by our sinful nature.
