No Fear
READ: Matthew 8:23-27
Michelle clutched the armrests of her plush airline seat hard enough to turn her knuckles white. Her eyes were dancing with near panic as her gaze darted back and forth to observe the other passengers of the flight. She vividly recalled the pilot’s frantic message for the passengers to buckle their safety belts and be prepared for a huge storm and dangerous turbulence. The other passengers on the plane were all also near panic, crying, and in unbelief. All except for one - the small girl sitting next to Michelle was sleeping quite serenely despite the terrible storm. Michelle shook her awake, and questioned her calmness. The girl sweetly smiled, remaining completely serene. The young girl explained that Jesus was holding her in His right hand and the storm in His left.
What valuable lesson to be learned from this young girl! She reminds us that in Jesus, we have nothing to fear. The Lord is watching out for us, protecting us. In our weak and sinful human nature, we often forget that Jesus controls everything and also does everything for our good. Therefore, we have nothing to fear in this world. There is nothing that can hurt or harm us with the Lord on our side. Jesus reminds us of this when He gently scolds His disciples for their lack of faith: “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” (Matthew 8:26). And later he says, "Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)
Always remember that the Lord holds us safely in His almighty hand. May that peace rule in your heart and your life always!
