Go Back!

Exodus 4:19 - Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt, for all the men who wanted to kill you are dead."

What an astonishing thing for God to say. Moses had to beat feet--get out of Dodge--head for the hills! And it wasn’t without reason. He killed an Egyptian. He thought he got away with it because nobody saw him. But somebody did see him. He thought the Israelites would see him as their champion (or was he thinking, Savior?), but they didn’t. So he had to run.

God told Moses to go back. We have to go back a lot too because our sinful-self gets us into all kinds of troubles. We have to go back to our parents, grandparents, pastors, staff ministers, teachers, and friends to ask for forgiveness. It’s not easy. It’s not what we want to do. We’re afraid to go back. Moses had to be afraid too. He didn’t know how people would treat him when he got back.

It would be nice if we had a burning bush, or God actually talking to us to tell us what to do. That would make things a lot easier. We do have that and more! Jesus came to take away our sin. Look in the Psalms and prophets to see how God lovingly called back the wondering Israelites. We can go back because our sins are forgiven. We have God’s word on it.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Because we don't have a "burning bush," where can we turn for answers and strength?  How does having God's assurance of forgiveness make it easier to ask others for forgiveness?

PRAYER SUGGESTION: Ask God to help you gain the courage to go back and do whatever you need to go back and do.
