Does Your Opinion Matter?

Matthew 16:15-16 - “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ!”
Does your opinion of people matter much? If someone asked you what you thought of when you heard Michael Jordan, what would you say? "He was a great athlete," "he has the best shoes," or "he was the greatest basketball player ever" might be some of the responses you'd offer. Does this really change anything though? Whatever you respond, it doesn't change the fact that Michael Jordan was a gifted basketball player.
What do you think about when you hear Jesus? There are a variety of things that come to mind for different people. If there was someone with no religion in their life, they may say he was just a man from history. If there was a historian he may say he was a man who was able to do some unexplainable miracles. To some other religions people might say he was a prophet who taught us how to live.
But what about you? Who do you say Jesus is? This was the question Jesus asked his disciples. The first to answer his question was Peter. He said “You are the Christ!” This is the same answer we need to have. We need to see Jesus as our Savior. He is the only way we have to get to heaven. Without him, our lives would mean nothing because we'd have no reason to do anything. Our love for Jesus, who is our Savior, is our motivation for all we do. So when someone asks you what you think about Jesus, you can just tell them exactly what he did for you, he saved you from your sins.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Does your opinion on Jesus really matter? How would different opinions impact or future? How do we know Jesus was the true Savior? Why did Jesus come to save us sinners?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS. Ask God to keep us following him, keep us trusting in what Jesus did for us. Thank Jesus for what he did for us.
