Make Yourself at Home

Psalm 1:1 - “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.”

“Make yourself at home!” As you have entered into the home of friend or family member, perhaps you’ve heard these words. Your host wanted you to feel relaxed. He wanted you to be at ease. He wanted you to feel comfortable.

The ungodly wish to make us feel “at home” with sin. They wish to shape our thinking. The psalmist uses action verbs to demonstrate the plot. Walk - stand - sit. The goal of the world is clear. Increase our comfort level with sin until we sit down with it and make ourselves at home.

However, Scripture shapes our thinking. The Bible is the standard by which we live. It guides our way and we realize that we are not “at home” here in this world. We are God’s children, heirs of eternal life in Christ. We were bought at a price. The price was the blood of Christ. So we sing with hymn writer, “I’m but a stranger here. Heaven is my home."

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Why is walking daily in God's Word so important as we walk through this world?

PRAYER SUGGESTION: Lord give me strength to resist the world’s temptations, and lead me safely home.
