No Need to Hide

Obadiah 4: “Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.

Have you ever done something so bad, you wished you could run away from God? How good are your wings? Can you find a place where God can’t find you? Some people hide from God by staying away from church. Some people hide by wrapping themselves up in a filthy lifestyle (so God won’t want me...). Some people hide from God by sleeping -- often a sign of depression.

But we can’t hide. On the down side, that means that there’s no place God can’t find us. Not even in a jar after cremation. Not even if your ashes are scattered across the sea, or (like Gene Roddenberry) across the stars.

But on the up side, that also means that there’s no place we can be where God can’t find us when we need him. There is no hole you can dig yourself into that God can’t pull you out of. In fact, he’s already pulled you out of the deepest hole there is: Your sins.

Give thanks...to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.

(Psalm 136:4)

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Read Psalm 139 and note the similarities between the above devotion and David's words.

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank God for not only exposing our filthy hearts, but also washing them clean forever in the blood of Jesus.  Ask God to give you the courage to confess your sins, to always rely on him, and to thank him for his goodness.
