Our Possession

Obadiah 19-20: People from the Negev will occupy the mountains of Esau, and people from the foothills will possess the land of the Philistines. They will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria, and Benjamin will possess Gilead. This company of Israelite exiles who are in Canaan will possess the land as far as Zarephath; the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the towns of the Negev.
What's your most valuable possession? A car? Your mp3 player and its vast music library? A laptop? A piece of your grandmother's jewelry? All of these things are valuable, but none of them will come with you to heaven.
Jesus is the most priceless treasure we have. Sure, we have houses, food, families, jobs. Even if in this lifetime God chooses to give us whole cities, giving us "the fields of Ephraim and Samaria;" even if he chooses to make you or me a world leader, it is still Jesus that is our one and only ticket to heaven.
Take care of your valuables -- and take care of your faith in Jesus. It's priceless.
Give thanks...to the One who remembered us in our low estate,
His love endures forever,
And freed us from our enemies,
His love endures forever.
And who gives food to every creature.
His love endures forever.
(Psalm 136:23-25)
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Does the fact that we "can't take anything with us" when we die mean it's wrong to have or seek to obtain things on earth? What does God provide to help take care of our faith?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank God for promising to bring you safely home to heaven. Ask him for help and guidance as he nurtures your faith and as you manage the blessings he gives you.
