The Good of Those Who Love Him

Exodus 2:21 - Moses agreed to stay with the man, who gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage.

In a few short verses in Exodus, Moses’ life took some dramatic turns: 1) killing a man and hiding him, 2) being frightened and fleeing from Pharaoh, and 3) helping some young women and being welcomed into their home. Now Moses marries one of the women he helped.

You may have heard the saying, “Everything happens for a reason.” I think more appropriately to keep in mind is Romans 8:28: “For we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” Even though Moses did wrong, God made it work to bless him. God did the same for others in Bible. God does the same for us.

We were born in sin, and are guilty of sin every day. But God made it work out for us by sending Jesus to pay for our sins on the cross. Jesus then rose to assure us of going to heaven. We can apply God’s never–ending love to our lives when we have hardships and share the message of God’s love with others, especially our unbelieving friends. Encourage our brothers and sisters, knowing that God makes all things work for “the good of those who love him.”

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Does the harsh reality that we sin all the time mean we don't have to be concerned with our actions?  How does God's grace in Christ motivate us to live better - and comfort us when we fail?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS - Dear Lord, thank you for your love! We know that you rescued us from our sins and eternal life is ours through faith. Amen.
