Colossians 1:17 - He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
For many years I have played in different soccer leagues. I often end up playing a central defender or a center midfielder. These field positions need someone who can direct other players while the game is being played. It gives me great confidence to know that my coaches trust me enough to put me in that spot game after game.
However, I have played on teams that hardly won a game. Often after a rough loss I would leave the field thinking to myself, "What kind of a leader am I? I couldn’t hold the team together?"
As God’s children we have a leader who will NEVER fail us! God our Father is the all-knowing, perfect director of our days here on earth. Like a team leader, he puts everything into play and directs our lives in the way he knows is best. But in our sinfulness we often forget that he is in control, and we may start to doubt him. But by his grace through his Word, he reminds us, "never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).
Let’s make it our goal (no pun intended) to always put our trust in God’s guiding hand and never doubt he is with us and has our best interests in mind no matter what.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Think of past experiences that, at the time, seemed terrible, but later on proved to be just what you needed or better than you ever expected.
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Lord, forgive me for forgetting that you're near, doubting that you care, and questioning your gracious will. Help me to my trust fully and only in you, for you promise to defend, protect and comfort me.
