Watch Your Mouth!

Proverbs 18:20 - From the fruit of his mouth a man’s stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied.
Surely someone in your life has told you: “Watch your mouth!” Normally, this is a form of scolding we receive for talking back or being obnoxious. But I think it’s more sound advice than anything, because your reputation will often be made by how you speak to others.
If we do not “Watch our mouth”, we may offend a friend who has a new outfit. If we do not “Watch our mouth”, our sarcasm may cut to the heart of a sibling, leading them to want nothing to do with you. Worse yet, if you do not “Watch your mouth”, you may lose an opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus with someone because Jesus can’t be that great if a ‘smart-mouth punk’ says he is a Christian.
When we “Watch our mouth”, we protect our reputation, which is the most valuable earthly thing we have. More importantly, when we watch our mouth, we will let words of praise, honor and thanksgiving to God roll off of our lips. We will bring glory to our Savior, and will be a blessing to all who hear us proclaim the joy of Christ in our lives.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How could the outcomes of yesterday have been different if you had "watched your mouth"? How can that help you prepare for tomorrow?
PRAYER SUGGESTION: Dear Lord, Help me “Watch my mouth” so I can bring glory to your name in all I say. Amen.
