Superman

Psalm 50:15 - Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.
Most people have heard of Superman. When a person needs help in a dire situation…POW! Superman comes flying out of nowhere, and saves the day. Once that person is saved, do they usually just go home? Of course not! They spread the news, telling everyone of Superman's great rescue.
God is like our Superman. As sinners, we are people with dire situations - sin has separated us from God, bad decisions have resulted in negative earthly consequences, the fallen world around us takes its toll on us. But our God has helped and stands ready to help every moment of every day. God sent our Savior Jesus to save us from our biggest problem - sin. And now he tells us to “call upon me in the day of trouble.” God invites us to go to him with every sort of problem, big or small, and He will “deliver you.” He does not say that He will deliver us if He feels like it or that He will deliver us if He’s not busy; He promises that He will deliver us!
Deliverance may not always come WHEN we want it or the WAY we want it, but it will come. And when it does, we should be thankful. Unfortunately as sinners, we need to be reminded by God that his saving us is an opportunity to both thank and praise him, as well as to share his goodness with others. As God’s children rescued from sin, death, and the power of the devil, we should be daily singing his praises. As God’s prophets we should be eager to spread the good news of forgiveness. And empowered as God’s mini-Supermen, we’ll share God’s love with other people. We do that by when we are there for them in their day of trouble, sharing God’s love, just as he has loved us.
God gives us the gift that keeps on giving: a listening ear, a promise to hear, and a promise to answer. He delivers us, each and every time as he knows best, daily ensuring our spiritual well-being, promising us Heaven when he calls us to himself one day in death. Everyone has the ultimate Superman, THE Savior, Jesus. Call on him!
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are some ways that you can call on God when you are in trouble? How are some ways in your everyday life that you can spread God’s love to other people? How can you reflect God’s love to others in your daily life?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for the people in the world who may need the reassurance of God’s presence in their lives. Pray for God’s help in situations that you may be dealing with in your life right now. Thank God for delivering you from your daily troubles and for allowing you to go to him whenever you need help.
