Live Life in Love

Ephesians 4:30-5:2, “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Megan was swinging on the local playground’s swing set when Liz, the playground bully, walked up to her and pushed her off the swing. Megan started to cry and then got bullied even more. How could Megan deal with her bully? She could get angry or worse try to get revenge. Instead, Megan went home and made some cookies. She then brought them back to the playground and gave everyone, including Liz, a cookie. Megan always remembers to think about Jesus would do.
Were you ever in a bad situation similar to Megan’s? Did you decide to get angry and seek revenge? Or did you choose to "Be imitators of God… live a life of love.” God tells us to put bitterness and anger behind us and just love others. People will try to provoke you in your life, but we need to take the high road and show them loving Christian attitudes. Treat others as you want to be treated. Showing love to others might just give you an opportunity to introduce them to Jesus.
"What would Jesus do?" This is a popular phrase found on T-shirts and bracelets. It's an important question though. When you are about to get mad, just think about how you could imitate Jesus’ love for His neighbors. You should love your neighbor as you love yourself. God tells us to “get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger.” These negative qualities will not help you in any situation. Live your life for God in love.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Why should I love my enemies? How could my love help others? Will my good example help everyone show love? Is anger ever good or helpful? Has God ever been angry and why?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank God for showing you love always. Pray that God gives you the courage to always show love to others. Pray for those who do not always show you love.
