Great Comfort

Psalm 62:1-2 - My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

A popular children’s story is “The Three Little Pigs.” A mother pig sends her three sons into the world to start their own lives. The first pig decides to make himself a house out of straw. The second pig built a house of sticks. The third brother chose to build with bricks. His brothers made fun of him for working long and hard to build a house. As the familiar story goes, when the hungry wolf came along, the straw and sticks could not withstand his strong breath. The first two brothers were thankful that their remaining brother took time to build a house that would last.

It’s not always easy to be a Christian. Every day we come across situations that tests us. We’re told by the author of Psalm 46 encourages putting trust in God "though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”  When we face trials we go to God for help and guidance, just as the pigs sought refuge in their brother's brick home. No matter what happens, he answers our prayers in the way he sees and knows is best. God always has, is, and will be there to protect us. What a comfort that is!

God can and will protect us throughout our entire lives. When our lives on earth come to an end he will take us to our eternal home in heaven. The comfort of rest that we find in God is something that we should share with the world. Our hope is that everyone may find the same rest we have and go to heaven.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How do you feel knowing that the all powerful God wants to help you in your everyday life? In what ways can you be a comfort to others? Who does God use in your daily life to comfort you?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank God for the times when he helped you through an especially rough time. Pray that he grants you boldness to share the comfort you know in God with others. Ask that he reminds you that you may always come to him.
