Just Say No!

READ: Titus 2:11-14
Jill and Judy were the best of friends ever since they were little. They did everything together and were always by each others side. One night they were at a small party, where everything was going fine until some uninvited guests showed up. They brought some alcohol with them. Soon, everyone was drinking except Jill and Judy. People kept trying to convince them to drink, and that nothing was wrong with it. Jill and Judy stood by each other and wouldn’t do it because they knew it was wrong.
Jill and Judy made the right decision by not drinking, since they were under age. God wants us all to say no to ungodly pleasures. In Titus 2:12 it says, “It teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age.” Everyone faces temptations, but with God's help and through the power of his Word, we stand firm against those temptations.
But we know that no one can live a perfect life. That’s why Jesus Christ came to redeem us from our sins. “Jesus Christ who gave himself for us, to redeem us from all wickedness, and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” (Titus 2:14) So, it is through Jesus that we receive the forgiveness of all the wickedness we do in our lives.
And out of love for God for all he has done for us, we strive to glorify him by following his will. The next time you’re tempted like Jill and Judy, remember to say, “No.” Encourage each other to live godly lives as as God has called us to.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How would you respond in Jill and Judy’s situation? What makes it so hard to say "No" to ungodly pleasures? What are some ways to live a self-controlled life?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God to help you overcome all temptations. Ask for help to lead a more godly life. Thank Jesus Christ for redeeming you from all of your sins and wickedness.
