Angels - TRUE/FALSE

The Bible says that angels play harps around the throne of God in heaven.

  • TRUE – See Revelation 5:8, 14:2 and 15:2.  While “angels” and “harp” are not used in the same sentence, they are used in the same context.  It is also likely that the “living creatures” described in these references are types of angels, as they have many similarities to the descriptions of angels other places in Scripture.

God’s angels know everything.

  • FALSE – According to Mark 13:32, the angels do not know the day or hour of Judgment Day; therefore, they are not all-knowing.  Additionally, 1 Peter 1 states that angels, like God’s people on earth, do not know the exact time and circumstances of prophecies until they are revealed by the Holy Spirit (see verses 10-12).

Angels have wings.

Angels will take us to heaven when we die.

God created evil angels, also called demons.

  • FALSE – Exodus 20:11 states that in six days God created everything in the heavens and the earth.  Therefore, the angels were part of Creation.  HOWEVER, Genesis 1:31 says that God looked at all he had made and saw that it was good.  Thus there were no evil angels when Creation concluded because sin (rebellion against God) was not part of Creation.  2 Peter 2 speaks of some angels sinning and being banished to hell.  Jude 6 clarifies what that sin was by telling us that some angels forfeited their position of authority and their place in Heaven – these angels are bound in the darkness of Hell for eternity.  These facts combined tell us that evil angels and demons were not part of Creation, but came into existence after Creation by their own sinful choice to rebel, for which they suffer eternal punishment and separation from God.

The Devil believes in God.

  • TRUE – See Genesis 3 (Satan asks Eve about what God said), Matthew 4 (Satan quotes God), Job 1 and 2 (Satan presents himself to God), and James 2 (we are told demons believe in God fearfully).  This belief is not faith in God that saves, but rather that merely acknowledges God’s existence.

We might have met an angel in human form.
