Characteristics of Evil Angels
- Genesis 1:31 and Exodus 20:11 - God did not create evil angels
- 2 Peter 2:4,9 - Evil angels were created holy and later sinned; they live in Hell; their final judgment will be pronounced on Judgment Day
- John 8:44 - The Devil is a murderer and a liar; there is NO truth in him
- Jude 6 - Evil angels chose to forfeit their position of authority and place in heaven; they live in darkness
- 1 John 3:8 - The Devil and evil angels fell away from God shortly after Creation was completed ("sinning from the beginning"); the Devil is powerful
- 1 Peter 5:8 - The Devil is like a prowling lion; he is not concerned for a person's welfare
- Ephesians 6:12 - Evil angels are powerful in both the earthly and heavenly realms
- 1 Corinthians 10:20 - Evil angels are referred to as demons; some people worship demons
- 2 Corinthians 11:13,14 - Evil angels deceive by appearing or seeming to be as holy angels
- Mark 5:1-20 - Demons work as a team; demons fear God; demons are only able to do what God allows
- Matthew 8:28-34 - Same account as Mark, however, the demons ask God if he is there to torture them "before the appointed time." The final judgement of evil angels will be terrible and permanent.
- James 2:19 - Demons believe that God exists, and again, fear Him greatly
- 1 Timothy 4:1 - Some people choose to follow the deceptions and false teachings of demons and evil spirits
- 1 Thessalonians 2:18 - Satan thwarts our plans at times
- Luke 8:12 - The Devil causes some to fall away in unbelief
- Luke 22:31,32 - Satan requests permission from God to test/tempt people
- Job 1:6-12 - God limits the power/breadth of Satan's temptations
- John 13:2 - The Devil is the source of sinful activity
- 2 Corinthians 4:3,4 - Satain is called "the god of this age"; the Devil makes unbelievers unable to see the light of the gospel
- Luke 13:16 - Satan is able to keep people "bound" for a relatively long time (but God ultimately has the power to unbind)
