Studying the Bible - Answers

  1. DISAGREE - Why? There are no mistakes in Scripture.
  2. DISAGREE - Why? The commands and truths found in God's Word are for all the ages.
  3. DISAGREE - Why? Every part of the Bible has a purpose and is useful. The entirety of the Old Testament points to the coming Savior. The New Testament tells how God faithfully and graciously fulfilled his promise of the ages.
  4. DISAGREE - Why? Though the Gospels tell us about Jesus and how to be saved, there is so much more to learn. If Jesus' followers limit themselves to the Gospels, their faith and understanding will remain shallow.
  5. AGREE - Why? The Holy Spirit works faith through the Word. God's Word shows us how to be saved and how to live in that saving faith.
  6. DISAGREE - Why? There is no "prescribed way" to read the Bible. Some choose to start with the New Testament Gospels because they are easier reading. Others like to see the "big picture" by reading from beginning to end. Whatever method you choose, the important thing is to stick with it and develop personal Bible reading habits.
  7. DISAGREE - Why? While the Mosaic Law no longer applies to New Testament Christians (God said so), they still serve an important purpose. The Old Testament Laws point to man's sin and the need for a Savior. God's Son accomplished something we could never do - live a perfect life. Christ's perfect life, suffering on the cross, and resurrection are the fulfillment of God's promises embodied in the Mosaic code.
  8. DISAGREE - Why? God's Word boils down to how sinful we are and incapable of doing anything to please him. The Word also graciously offers God's solution to our problem - Jesus Christ. It is only through faith in Christ that we obey God's will.
  9. DISAGREE - Why?God's Word is especially clear about our salvation. It is useful for teaching, training, rebuking, and equipping believers.
  10. DISAGREE - Why? God's promise of salvation is for all people. On a personal level it offers salvation to me.
