Christ Our Ultimate Friend
By Megan, WI
As we go through life, we will come across a whole ton of people, some of whom we will be come friends with, some we won’t think much about, and some we might hope to never meet again. When you meet someone with whom you have many common interests, whom you might call your ‘best friend,’ its hard to imagine going through life without them. And yet, petty things may come up and hurtful words spoken. Differences will arise and the friendship may be lost. It may not necessarily be anyone in particular’s fault; maybe the friendship just wasn’t meant to be. However, that won’t erase the hurt. Questions like “Did he/she ever really think of me as their best friend?" or "Why did our friendship end?” will come up. You might feel hesitant towards your other friends, wondering if they too, at the first sign of trouble, will scatter and leave you in the dark. You feel vulnerable, hurt, betrayed.
But while earthly friends may leave, there is always someone we can depend on through thick and thin. God has said himself in Matthew 28:20, “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” This passage can give us the comfort and courage to persevere through rough times of betrayal and loneliness. The hurt of losing someone you were close to is not easy to get over. But because God has told us that he is always with us, we can have the strength to move on. Whatever happens, we should know that God has a plan. Even when things seem at their worst, when we feel like there is no way that anyone could possibly be on your side, He knows what He is doing. And we can trust in that fact. Here, in His Word, we can find the knowledge of God’s never-ending faithfulness and presence. No matter what life throws our way, God will never forsake us. He is always by our side.
