The Skill to Wrench a Dish Wiper

By Jie

When I was a little girl, I hated doing house work, especially washing dishes. During those times, my only enjoyment was a secret challenge for myself: to see if I could wrench all the water that was in the dish wiper. But every time my mom beat me to the finish, because her long years of house work made her hands hardy and strong.

No matter how old we are, life is always filled with things we don’t like but have to do. Some people just refuse to see the good in these duties, but others keep their eyes on the challenges that come out from there and enjoy the determination and chance to "wrench out the last drop of water."

Jesus also faced these situations. In John 4:4 it says “On his way there he had to go through Samaria.”

On his ways to Galilee from Judea, he had to go through Samaria, which was full of animosity. All his disciples felt confused, wondering why they had to go that way. But only Jesus knew that they had to do this. When he arrived there, His blessed message came to a Samaritan lady and her villagers.

Once a sage said : “What I learned from things that I have to do is more than what I learned from doing what I prefer to do.” Do you want to share the same feeling? Don’t try to run away or avoid our duties and things that we have to do; instead, find the best life lesson from them. But one thing you have to remember: the skill to wrench all the water out comes from many years of practice.

Prayer: Dear God, help us understand the power hidden under normal work.  May we see them as a way to seek and follow your will.
