A Mother's Tear
By Eric
Written for Darice in memory of her son Benjamin
A mother's tear streams down her cheek
As she reaches for her son
To touch his face just one last time,
For his walk on earth is done.
This sight is one that no mother
Should ever have to see.
A son grows up, becomes a man;
That's the way it's meant to be.
But somewhere in that ancient tale
A page has been revised.
The story takes a shocking turn,
And so her son here lies.
A mother's heart begins to melt
As they slowly close the coffin.
She wishes there had been more hugs,
The words "I love you" much more often.
A mother hears the pastor's words
Of comfort through the sorrow.
That Jesus died and rose again
So her son, too, sees tomorrow.
A mother sees her little boy
In a lonely coffin lay,
And yet she knows with certainty
They'll reunite someday.
