This letter was received from an inmate named Frank who received a card from Wendy, filled out at the 2009 WELS International Youth Rally.
Wendy,
Thank you for the beautiful card. Receiving something like this in a place like this is a great blessing. Many people assume jail is punishment but for me it has been a Godsend. This has been a time for me to evaluate my life, my relationships with God, family and others. This reflection has led me to a new appreciation for the things that are truly important in my life.
I have made some remarkable new friends such as the pastors here at the house of corrections. Pastor Mart is one such person. Through his guidance I have renewed my faith, became confirmed and joined a parish. Through God and Mart's instruction my life has taken a new path.
I was never able to trust strangers before but now I know we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. I will include you in my prayers this evening. Please say this prayer with me:
But if we walk in the light
as he is in the light
then we have fellowship
with one another
and the blood of his Son Jesus
cleanses us from all sins. (1 John 1:7)
